Day of the Dead Hop

My computer is in its third week at "the shop"'( yeah, don't even get me started) & I am unable to post photos with this borrowed ipad. So I am unhappily able to post today. I'm very sorry, I've never missed a blog deadline before.

Paper Boxes & Flat File Cabinet Drawers

I was lucky enough to get a 10 drawer flat file cabinet from my mom a while back.I finally brought it in & decided to store beads in it. Then I had to figure out how I was going to contain the beads. I went  w/ origami boxes. I used some sheet music I had stashed back for my paper. Right now I have a dozen boxes in each drawer, but there is room for three more in each drawer if I need more space.

Hoarder's Hop Revisited

These are a pair from a set by Juls , I added some czech glass & lamp work spacers by Tracy Bell . These are the same style as the red ones I showed in the Hoarder's Hop.

Juls again, a mis-matched pair from a set w/ copper bead caps.

The next two pairs use more czech glass from a kit I bought back in the spring. I even mixed up (GASP!) the beads from all three kits. I love the shape of the center bead, I think I have to find more.

I don't usually do such a  'sweet' design, but these just sort of made themselves after I rediscovered the earwires. The top bead is a transfer ware bead.I may even make a pair of these for myself.
One last pair, more from a set by Juls, I added czech beads & Buddah  charms from skybluepink . And if you don't know about skybluepink, check out the link, they have the best random stuff.

Hoarders Hop part 2

I have a plan for these, I want them to look like lanterns. I am still looking for some of the 'parts'
these are by juls.

I was well on my way w/ these sets I won, (maker?) when disaster struck.  my leather broke after tying off a knot. I tried to roll w/ it, but the matching bead's hole is small & I couldn't string leather through it. I regrouped & ended up w/ the simplified version shown. the remaining beads may be a bracelet?

Bead Hoarders Blog Hop

These are by suebeads . I've had these since the BSBH group had a swap. She was my first source of handmade lampwork & I have held on to most of that batch! I still have several sets in various stages of design(or not).

I think these are also sue's . I added some czech glass & sterling spacers.

These are by julsbeads . I bought studio time & got a big batch of beads. I've been miserly w/ all of them, this is only 2 of a set. I added more czech glass (equally hoarded for years now). The top pair are greenish on the back.

This wee bead,(about the size of my pinky nail?) didn't need much.It came from a destash sale, because who doesn't love someone else's stuff ?
I have many more beads, but this is all I managed this week.
Enjoy the hop! Thanks Lori, glad you are feeling better!

Haul, part 2

Part 2 makes one photo sound pretty grand, I'm afraid, so I'm super
                                                                                     sizing it!
I hope you can really see how pretty the quartz @ the top is. It reminds me of old glass that has turned lavender in sunlight. Next are 2 strands of hand painted floral beads. I think they are clay, but  not smooth enough to be porcelain? Third from top another strand of this greeny turquoise. Is it Howlite? I don't know, but I like having one of these colour beads in a piece, so I like having several sizes & shapes in my stash. Little green tubes, little orange cubes & some pink bamboo. In keeping w/ my beach theme I bought some double drilled shell beads. Last, but not least, teeny tiny vertebrae. These are what made me stop @ the booth in the first place. I hadn't planned to start shopping before I had walked the show first, but these were the only strand,( it was a sign) so I went ahead & started shopping. This is the same booth were I got all the African turquoise.
I don't think I've explained why I have added so many 'beachy' type elements to my stash lately. I am now the exclusive jewelry artist for a gallery on the Cape. I started selling when they opened in May/June. At the one evening soft open in May, I sold several pieces, & I made sales in June as well! So that is why you may have noticed a new theme emerging from my show hauls.

Gem Mineral & Fossil Show, July 2013

I found out about a Gem, Mineral, & Fossil show Friday afternoon & I decided to go. Turns out it was put on by the gem society & the Boy Scouts so it was a really busy show. Lots of geodes any way you could imagine, even opened while you wait. Lots of cabachons as well, but not what I needed. There weren't many vendors w/ what I was looking for, ( no crystals, plz) but the few that did,( maybe 7?) had great stuff!
I got 8 strands of sand cast glass, some jade baskets, some leaves & 2 jade components, they have a hole @ each end. I also got a couple of donuts & some turquoise drops.
I've always wanted some of these seed strands! Some India glass bead strands, I wore them as wrap bracelets, & some of this composite stone. For fun there are a pair of rainbow magnets under the glass beads.

Some black stone discs, I see these as being some 'workhorses'. Howlite starfish for a 'beachy' touch, these make nice charms/dangles. Amazonite two ways, nice sized chunks & flat rectangles. These make me feel 'beachy' too. A carved horn bead, of course now I wish I had bought the long version too, but it is what it is.

These are my favorites, African turquoise. I already have a necklace in progress for myself, it isn't coming along like I thought it would, I'm having trouble w/ the spacers?
For some reason I can't post a fifth photo, so I'll have another post tomorrow w/ that one.I'm still moving beads around for the Hoarders Hop, but come Saturday there will be new pieces on display. Are you participating?

7th Bead Soup Blog Hop Reveal

Since I never took a picture of my Soup that Kathy Lindemer sent, I'll use hers. I used everything but the larger silver beads.
I knew what I wanted to do w/ the ingredients & sketched something. Now, the problem w/ a sketch, you draw everything the size you need it to be to 'fit'.

I redid this deceptively simple bracelet a total of five times....... first nest next to second nest.

The first bracelet was too big so I started w/ redoing the nest.I never planned on restringing the pearls, but the knot on the enameled washer had loosened. Since the pearls side was too large it was a matter if fit.

Pearls, strung/knotted twice, nest made twice & the strung beads restrung 3 times, (does that makes 7 instead of  5? I forgot the nest & one of the beads restringing).

The final result.
Thanks again to our hostess, Lori Anderson.
